Useful Firefox Plugins for the EEE PC

• Tiny Menu – Condenses all the file menus (File, Edit, View, etc.) into one option called Menu. I suggest using this, then dragging all the nav buttons and such onto the same row. Saves a lot of screen real estate, and it’s one of the most important addons in my opinion.
• autoHideStatusbar – Auto-hides the Firefox status bar at the bottom of the screen, similar to Google Chrome.
• Foxmarks – Synchronize bookmarks with any of your other computers.
• Silvermel – Great classy theme. (Not really designed specifically for this but it just looks good.)
• Hide Find Bar – Auto hides the find bar after X amount of seconds. I always leave it open by accident so this is great.

Enable Advanced Mode on the EEE PC 1000

How to set up Advanced Desktop or Full Desktop on an Eee PC 1000

1. Press Ctrl & Alt and T at the same time to get to the terminal.
2. Type sudo synaptic
3. Click settings and then repositories
4. Click add in the bottom left corner
5. Put http://download.tuxfamily.org/eeepcrepos/ in the URL:
6. Put p701 in the distribution
7. Put main etch in the sections
8. You have just added the 701 repositories
9. Now close the repository window and click reload in synaptic
10. Next search for ksmserver and then kicker right click on each one and mark install
11. Click apply at the top of the page and wait for synaptic to finish
12. Close synaptic and the terminal window
13. You should now have a full desktop option in you shutdown options.

Install Wine on the EEE PC

Download lazyeeepc and run it. It should give you an easy option to install wine for the eee pc.

Get Ventrilo to Work on the EEE PC (Sort-of)

1. Edit the file:
~/.wine/drive_c/windows/system.ini

2. And add the following line:
MSACM.msgsm610=msgsm32.acm

3. Next you need to get your hands on the windows file ‘msgsm32.acm’ from an existing windows partition (C:/WINDOWS/system32/msgsm32.acm) and copy it to ‘~/.wine/drive_c/windows/system/’.

4. Run vent.

Note: When I transmit, I can usually only transmit until I let go of the talk key, then that’s broken for good. I can still receive audio the whole time though.

Extract Music from your iPod Easily

I used this little freeware app called iDump. Download using the “Executeable only” link. Take that file that you downloaded and put it on your iPod with Windows Explorer/My Computer. Open it up and it should show you your songs.

Correct your system date and time before logging on and it should stop this issue.

I had this problem because my CMOS battery isn’t working as well and my date/time resets after leaving the PC off for a while.

Replacing Headlights on a 2003 Acura TL

Replacing the headlights is actually kinda tough. I found great instructions with pictures here, then made a post about the difference between my car and the type-s. I believe the change is also due to the fact some people remove the part that’s in my way completely for better engine sound.

These instructions are for replacing the lowbeam xenon HID headlights, not the highbeam/daytime halogen lights.

’03 Acura TL Xenon Headlights, Keyless Entry – DIY FOOL!

• I spent $150 for keyless entry when you can buy them online with instructions for only $35 USD.
• I was offered $200 to replace each Xenon HID headlight and passed. Lucky I did because I found a pair of Philips lights online for $88 USD.
• Probably a whole number of other things that are way over priced, yet easy to do it yourself.

Look it up before getting stuff from the dealer. This is obvious for some people, of course… but it might help others.

Disable Auto playing the next podcast on iPod’s

The new iPod’s play podcasts continuously, so if you decide to go to sleep with an hour-long podcast going and fall asleep, you’ll wake up with a whole bunch more podcasts marked as played that you never actually listened to.

The solution:
Go to the main menu, then change the Shuffle setting from “Off” to something else. I picked “Albums”. This stopped my podcasts from playing over and over again.

Fix MBR for an Old MS-DOS System

I accidentally installed grub and couldn’t figure out how to uninstall or override it with another boot loader. The others just weren’t working. Running fdisk /mbr didn’t work for me either. What I had to do was insert and boot the XP CD, then go to the repair console and type fixmbr. I just rebooted and it went straight into DOS like it was supposed to.
