Make More Room in Google Calendar for Automatically Updating iCal Feeds

Go to your calendar settings and set your 4 day custom calendar to either 2 or 3 weeks depending on how much space you need per day. That calendar will morph into the style of the monthly calendar, just with more space for events.

Then you can use awesome custom iCal feeds that automatically update, like:

Custom TV Show Schedule This one is a bit more difficult and requires you to host a php script on a web server (which I can provide through my hosting company), but it’s my favorite and the single most useful thing I’ve ever added to my Google Calendar (I used to track TV shows manually before).

Music:

If you’re a last.fm user, they have iCal links for recommended concerts and events in your area, but their new album releases section only has an RSS feed.

Note: Google already has sports teams (with live score updates), holidays, birthdays, etc. built right in to the “Add interesting calendars” option.

Duke Nukem 3D HRP Multiplayer

Download Duke Nukem 3D and install it.
Download Duke HRP and install it to the Duke3D directory.
Download YANG.
Run YANG.
On the Source Ports config screen of YANG – Tell it where where eDuke3D.exe is in that Duke3D directory.
On the Source Ports config screen of YANG – Give it the same directory as above for the TC/Mods path below.
Create a room in YANG, on the right select “game.con” and click “use” so it moves to the right. This enables HRP to work.

Someone has developed a tool that enables you to edit your Games Explorer in Windows 7 (or Vista). You can add missing box art quite easily.

Install mod_security 2 on CentOS/RedHat

This is a translation from Spanish to English, but still the best guide I’ve used so far. Modified slightly to help others but could use more work.

Important: ModSecurity blocks lots of UNIX commands. I had to add dots to them. They are colored red so you know to change them.

This article assumes that you have installed a RedHat Enterprise or CentOS and not guaranteed to work, although we have tested on several CentOS 4.5 with success.

The first thing is make sure we have installed the libxml2 library, for it only have to do a search on our system, if installed normally. (XPC Note: Try “yum install libxml2-devel”)

You can check if it is installed with the command:

rpm -q libxml2

To compile ModSecurity install and need some additional packages, then you can uninstall it because it is not necessary.

The packages needed are:

httpd-devel httpd-devel

apr-devel apr-devel

apr-util-devel apr-util-devel

pcre-devel pcre-devel

In case you miss some package for CentOS can install as follows:

yum install libxml2

yum install httpd-devel

Now go on the mod_security, for this visit the official website ModSecurity to download the latest version. The example shows the version available today, we have to unzip, I recommend downloading everything in / usr / local / share /, for example:

Congratulations, now you have mod_security installed on your Apache2 server with CentOS and Plesk panel.

Logitech G15 Display Customization – LCDStudio

I’m working with LCDStudio to create the “ultimate” display that shows me everything.

So far I’ve included:

Foobar200 (bottom left, with progress bar)
System temperatures (top left, comes from the software Everest)
Local weather (middle)
Upload/download bandwidth (right, has bars that show how much capacity is in use)
CPU/RAM usage
Hard drive usage
Volume (far right)
Gmail new message count (top right)

I also have a few more pages that show more details:

I wanted to display Gmail where foobar2000 shows when foobar isn’t playing (2nd screenshot), but that feature in the plugin is currently broken.

I’ll probably release my config. If so it’ll be here.

Useful Firefox Plugins for the EEE PC

Tiny Menu – Condenses all the file menus (File, Edit, View, etc.) into one option called Menu. I suggest using this, then dragging all the nav buttons and such onto the same row. Saves a lot of screen real estate, and it’s one of the most important addons in my opinion.
autoHideStatusbar – Auto-hides the Firefox status bar at the bottom of the screen, similar to Google Chrome.
Foxmarks – Synchronize bookmarks with any of your other computers.
Silvermel – Great classy theme. (Not really designed specifically for this but it just looks good.)
Hide Find Bar – Auto hides the find bar after X amount of seconds. I always leave it open by accident so this is great.

Enable Advanced Mode on the EEE PC 1000

How to set up Advanced Desktop or Full Desktop on an Eee PC 1000

Press Ctrl & Alt and T at the same time to get to the terminal.
Type sudo synaptic
Click settings and then repositories
Click add in the bottom left corner
Put http://download.tuxfamily.org/eeepcrepos/ in the URL:
Put p701 in the distribution
Put main etch in the sections
You have just added the 701 repositories
Now close the repository window and click reload in synaptic
Next search for ksmserver and then kicker right click on each one and mark install
Click apply at the top of the page and wait for synaptic to finish
Close synaptic and the terminal window
You should now have a full desktop option in you shutdown options.

Download lazyeeepc and run it. It should give you an easy option to install wine for the eee pc.

Get Ventrilo to Work on the EEE PC (Sort-of)

1. Edit the file:
~/.wine/drive_c/windows/system.ini

2. And add the following line:
MSACM.msgsm610=msgsm32.acm

3. Next you need to get your hands on the windows file ‘msgsm32.acm’ from an existing windows partition (C:/WINDOWS/system32/msgsm32.acm) and copy it to ‘~/.wine/drive_c/windows/system/’.

4. Run vent.

Note: When I transmit, I can usually only transmit until I let go of the talk key, then that’s broken for good. I can still receive audio the whole time though.
